Who we are

Future of Dev (futureofdev.com) is run by Luke Hennerley. We publish free courses, insights, and resources to help people navigate software careers in the AI era. You can reach us at luke@futureofdev.com.

What we collect and why

Analytics (PostHog)

We use PostHog to understand how people use this site — which pages are visited, where people drop off, and how content performs. By default, PostHog runs in a cookieless, memory-only mode: no data is stored on your device and nothing persists between visits.

If you accept cookies via the banner, PostHog switches to cookie-based tracking so we can recognise you across visits. In that mode, a random anonymous identifier is stored in a cookie on your device. No name or email is attached to this identifier unless you choose to share it (e.g. by subscribing to the newsletter).

PostHog is self-hostable and we use their EU-based cloud (eu.i.posthog.com). Data does not leave the EU. See PostHog's privacy policy.

Newsletter (Resend)

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store your email address with Resend to send you updates. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email. We do not sell or share your email with third parties. See Resend's privacy policy.

When you subscribe, we also associate your email with your PostHog analytics profile (if PostHog is active in your session). This lets us understand the journey from visitor to subscriber. Your email is only linked to analytics data on devices where you have subscribed.

Course progress (Claude Academy)

If you take a course via Claude Academy and opt in to progress sharing, we collect anonymous lesson completion data: a randomly generated ID (no name, email, or device info), the phase and lesson numbers, and a timestamp. This data is stored in Supabase on EU-based infrastructure and is used solely to understand how students progress through the curriculum. You are asked for this consent explicitly before any data is sent.

Cookies

We only set cookies if you accept the cookie consent banner. The cookies we set are:

  • ph_* — PostHog analytics cookies. Store an anonymous distinct ID to recognise you across visits. No personal information is stored in the cookie itself.

We also use localStorage to store your cookie preference (ph_consent) so we don't ask again on future visits.

You can clear your consent at any time by clearing your browser's cookies and local storage for this site.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EU or UK, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
  • Erasure — ask us to delete your data
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Portability — receive your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent — opt out of cookies at any time by clearing your browser storage

To exercise any of these rights, email luke@futureofdev.com. We will respond within 30 days.
