What we collect

If you subscribe, Beehiiv stores your email address, subscription status, consent and attribution data so it can deliver Future of Dev and manage preferences. Beehiiv is the source of truth for that newsletter data.

Each subscriber also has a randomly generated analytics_id. It is pseudonymous personal data. It is not an authentication credential, does not appear in public URLs and is not derived from your email address.

Optional website analytics

PostHog only starts after you choose “Allow analytics”. We use PostHog Cloud EU for behavioural analytics, configure it not to retain IP addresses, disable form autocapture and session recordings, and omit query strings from page URLs.

If you subscribe while analytics consent is active, the browser identifies the existing anonymous journey using your analytics_id and marks the profile as a newsletter subscriber. Your email address is never sent to PostHog. If analytics consent is absent, the subscription still completes and no PostHog identity or signup event is sent.

Course downloads

Coding Bootcamp in a Box is downloaded through a signed link after successful newsletter subscription. The link contains a random nonce, the course version, a signature and a 15-minute expiry. It contains no email address and cannot be used to sign in.

Retention and access

Newsletter records are retained in Beehiiv while the subscription is active and as needed for suppression, legal or security obligations. Behavioural events in PostHog are retained for 12 months. Access to both systems is restricted to people who need it to operate the publication.

Your choices and rights

Every new edition uses Beehiiv’s native preference and unsubscribe links. Legacy links set a short-lived, signed and HTTP-only confirmation cookie, then open a query-free confirmation page before updating the matching Beehiiv subscription.

You can ask to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, object to processing, or withdraw consent. For a valid deletion request we remove the Beehiiv subscriber where legally permitted and use the matching analytics_id to delete the PostHog person and associated events.
